Scope of Work
The project scope included:
- Scraping and cleaning dross, metal spatter, and buildup across the furnace refractory lining,
- Robotic demolition (with manual methods where necessary), including:
- Skull loosening, breaking out, rigging, and removal
- Removal of sill, ramp, and mid-floor hotface
- Breaking out vertical door jambs
- Breaking out one furnace door refractory
Project Execution
Our demolition team deployed two robotic machines, which carried out the bulk of the work, with manual support in areas requiring a finer touch. Key tasks included:
- Skull removal and rigging out with forklifts
- Furnace floor, ramp, and mid-floor demolition
- Vertical door jambs and furnace door refractory removal
- Surface chipping and cleaning to prepare for inspection
Despite challenges such as onsite power interruptions beyond our control, the project was completed on schedule thanks to efficient teamwork and contingency planning.
The Result
Both furnaces were successfully prepared for inspection and installation, with additional scope completed to ensure optimal readiness for the next operational phase. By combining robotic precision with skilled manpower, Trident once again demonstrated our ability to execute complex demolition projects safely, quickly, and effectively.
